Mondays

The Parent-Toddler program at Sandy Hill is designed for children who turn 2 before September 1st of the current school year. We will meet on Mondays for 1 hour and 30 minutes each time. The daily schedule will include circle time with music/movement and stories, indoor and outdoor exploration, and snack. An important part of class will focus on parent education as well. Parents will have the opportunity to learn about their child’s developmental phases, acquire new positive parenting tools, and problem solve specific situations with a certified parenting instructor.
Program Goals:
-
Provide parents with a comfortable first step into their Sandy Hill preschool experience
-
Provide a support system and community network
-
Provide parents with an opportunity to observe their own child interacting with their teachers, other adults, and peers
-
Provide parents with strategies for understanding appropriate developmental stages for their child, behavioral challenges, as well as tools to redirect behavior.
Parents are expected to stay for the duration of the class with their child.
Class is held in the Parent/Toddler classroom Mondays from 9:00 - 10:30 or 10:45 - 12:15. Includes monthly Mindful Parenting class. Enrollment is limited to 10 students and their parent. Cost is $100/ month.

“In our bones we need the natural curve of hills, the scent of chaparral, the whisper of pines, the possibility of wildness” Richard Louv, Last child in the woods
What is the Outdoor Classroom? – Each week we will visit a local park and explore the wilderness around us.
The class will follow the children’s interests and make discoveries to reach new summits. This will naturally lead to further investigations into native plants and animals. Building forts and group games will challenge social interactions as we re-enforce connections to nature. Using all of our senses and moving our bodies will strengthen self confidence and awareness of the world.
Logistics:

5 days per week ~ Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs/Fri – $225.00 per 1 week session
What you need to know
Potty Training: Children must be COMPLETELY potty trained to enroll in the summer program.
Snack and Lunch Info: An organic snack will be provided late morning and will consist of crackers and fruit. Please provide children with a water bottle. Children bring their own lunch. Sandy Hill currently has a policy against sodas, cookies, candy, peanuts (you will find many nut alternative spreads at your local grocery store) and other “junk food” items.
In order to prepare your child for their first day, I suggest you speak positively about Sandy Hill and all the fun things they will experience. You should also include your child with preparing their lunch. This can start with picking out a lunch box (remember to find one your child can open on their own) and shopping at the grocery store. The night before their first day at school/camp allow your child to help pick out what they would like in their lunch. If using plastic containers or Zip-Lock’s, practice opening. This process will allow them to take ownership of their belongings and develop self confidence.
